Elizabeth Preston initially joined the communication department at Westfield State University in 1990, serving as department chair from 1996-2005 and 2006-2008. She rejoined the faculty in 2017, following a nine-year absence during which she served as the university’s dean of faculty, vice president for academic affairs, and interim president. 

Dr. Preston holds a B.A. in English from Bates College, and earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in communication from the University of Massachusett/Amherst.  She currently teaches courses in advertising and consumer culture, media literacy, and video production; her most research has explored advertising and the natural world and examined  direct-to-consumer advertising of psychopharmaceuticals.  She was instrumental in bringing production of the venerable high school quiz show As Schools Match Wits to the university, and served as the program’s executive producer from 2006-2013.
