Max Saito is interested in the ways in which individual actions, feelings and world views are interconnected with both domestic and international issues. He enjoys learning from students and fellow faculty at WSC. His expertise include international and intercultural communication, cultural communication, coordinated management of meaning, conflict resolutions, gender, and sexuality.

Max was born and raised in Yamagata prefecture, Japan. He served as a Japanese Peace Corps volunteer, teaching motor vehicle technology in the Sinhalese language in Sri Lanka. He has also done international development work in the Philippines. Max received his bachelorĂ­s degree in International Studies from Marlboro College and the School for International Training. He received a MasterĂ­s Degree in International and Intercultural Management from the School for International Training with a concentration in Sustainable Development and Training of Trainers. He worked as a cross-cultural trainer and a counselor to international students in the Washington, D.C. area. His Ph.D. is from the Department of Communication at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Max homeschools his four children, together with his wife, in Northampton.
