RIDE Center Faculty Fellow - Amanda Salacinski, Ph.D.

Amanda Salacinski, Assistant Professor of Sports Medicine & Human Performance

Dr. Salacinski received her Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. Currently, she teaches Physiology of Exercise and Fitness Assessment and Prescription at Westfield State. Her research interests include the effects of water aerobics on breast cancer survivors and their caregivers, which is a funding exercise intervention through the Rays of Hope Foundation. Other research projects include body composition in various populations.

Dr. Salacinski enjoys incorporating hands-on learning into her courses, and utilizes the RIDE Center to teach her students how to create 3D representations of the concepts they are studying in her courses.

Projects

  • Dr. Salacinski, along with Dr. Selgrade, utilized RIDE Center 3D printers to create models of sarcomere interaction for an exercise kinesiology course (S'25).
  • These models offered students a visual representation of actin and myosin interacting during muscle contraction. Additionally, the models allowed students to visualize and understand the structure and function of these proteins working together.
