University Counseling Center Earns Prestigious Accreditation

Westfield State University's Counseling Center has been accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS), making it the only Massachusetts State University to achieve this recognition.

Westfield State Universitys Counseling Center has earned accreditation from the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS), making it the only counseling center within the Massachusetts State University system to achieve this distinction. The recognition affirms the centers dedication to providing high-quality mental health services and meeting rigorous national standards.

We are pleased to be the only Massachusetts State University Counseling Center to be accredited by IACS,said Brian P. Cahillane, Director of the Counseling Center. We have worked hard to not only live up to national standards but to be the best center we can be, providing quality counseling experiences to our students.

IACS, established in 1971, is the only international organization dedicated solely to accrediting professional counseling centers in higher education. Accreditation is based on several factors, including the counseling centers relationship with the university, clinical services, ethical standards, personnel, and resources.

Ann Patterson, Executive Director of IACS, commented this momentous achievement, saying, Congratulations on your hard work to maintain IACS accreditation for Westfield States counseling center!she said. It is a high bar and a testament to you and your staffs professionalism and dedication to student mental health.

The Counseling Center at Westfield State has long been committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of its campus community. In 2024, the center introduced several new programs to enhance its services, including Uwill Student Mental Health Support and Togetherall Peer Support.

The Center also offers off-campus telehealth appointments, stress management coaching, nutritional guidance, and pet therapy. Additionally, it runs outreach initiatives such as the annual Fresh Check Days and the Bandana Project, which aims to increase mental health awareness on campus.
