In a partnership with Springfield Technical Community College, and generously supported by Baystate Health, Westfield State is committed to providing the engagement and support students need to successfully navigate academic pathways in healthcare. Dynamic, hands-on experiences hosted at Westfield State University, Springfield Technical Community College, and at middle and high schools allow students to gain firsthand insight into the healthcare environment and also experience what it is like to learn on a college campus. Students enjoy immersive learning experiences such as teddy bear triage, syringe races, or hands only CPR while gaining valuable insight about what is involved in becoming a healthcare professional. Additionally, students have the opportunity to engage with current healthcare students and professionals to learn from real -world examples. Customized offerings such as instruction on how to complete an application or FASFA are available for groups or individuals.

Support for students interested in becoming healthcare professionals is a program priority. In alignment with this, WSU and STCC have hired dedicated Healthcare Career Navigators who are available to not only provide information about careers in healthcare, but also to assist with alleviating barriers or challenges people may face in achieving their career goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to apply to nursing school separately from Westfield State University?

No, it is one application and when you are prompted to select a major of interest, select nursing! You can fill out the application using the common app or directly from our website here.

What can I do in high school to help prepare me to be a successful applicant to nursing school?

Focus on keeping your overall GPA high (Minimum GPA for nursing applicants is a 3.3 but the majority of applicants have GPAs of 3.5 or higher). A focus on science and math classes is important because they are the foundation for nursing education.

I want to be a pediatric (or any other specialty) nurse, is there a pediatric nursing program I can apply to?

No! During your time in nursing school, you will get to see many different specialties; once you graduate and decide which you like the best, you can apply to jobs within that specialty.

I didn’t get into nursing school, now what?
